Our Precious Metal Refining Process

Our Precious Metal Refining Process

At Mid-States Recycling and Refining, our commitment to integrity begins before we ever receive your precious metals and continues through our entire recycling, smelting, and brokering process, with built-in safeguards and other checks that eliminate mistakes and ensure integrity and accuracy.

Contact us today, and we can provide insured FedEx pick up wherever you are within hours – you won’t have to leave your office. Or send your precious metals to us via registered mail. Our online Karat Kalculator  – updated with current prices daily to determine the approximate value of your gold – and our Online Packing List  makes shipping easy.

In addition, we accept personal deliveries and drop-offs, and our open-door policy allows customers to monitor our precious metal refining processes from beginning to end.

We pay fast – often within five business days after we receive a customer’s metals, and we offer advances on materials in the process.

Purity

We start by weighing your precious metals on scales calibrated quarterly by outside certification specialists. The check-in process continues as we photograph and document your metal, and witness-signed verifications ensure accuracy throughout.

Professionals in our melting department then verify the weight before melting the metal into a homogenous form that undergoes our rigorous corrected fire assay process to determine the purity of the sample. While we have the internal XRF (X-ray fluorescence) capabilities to tell customers the approximate value of their metals, only the exacting corrected fire assay process provides integrity, accuracy, and consistency to ensure you receive the most accurate payment for your scrap material.

Our experienced trading staff then can help price and hedge your metals on the markets of your choice, including:

  • New York Mercantile Exchange
  • COMEX
  • London Metal Exchange (LME)
  • Globex

You’re free to lock in your sale price at your convenience. We also offer a consignment service for future pricing, giving you the ability to set “sell” and “no sell” parameters that automatically move your metal when the market hits your personally chosen benchmarks.

Your pure metal also can be returned in shot, crystal, sponge or bar form.
